A good reason to hire a female voice actor is because you enjoy the sound of that person’s voice.  But other than the sound of Ruth’s voice, her years of experience working a regular 9-to-5 job as a web professional gives her the background to understand tech, and the need to communicate clearly & effectively.

Need a voice for your Explainer video? Ruth has years of experience explaining tech to the non-tech-y.

Maybe you’ve got an e-Learning project that you want to sound compassionate, not condescending. Ruth can vocally guide your audience through any kind of class.

Most of all, Ruth is committed to helping your project be the best it can be, whether you need a distinct character read, or simply need someone of character.

Previous Lives

Like many, Ruth traveled a circuitous route to voice over. Once she started learning phonics in second grade, Ruth’s mom would ask Ruth how to pronounce words. Next came a love of performing through middle & high school plays.

Ruth then went to Alverno College & received her degree in Professional Communication, with minors in Global Studies & Theatre. During those years, she spent one summer interning with a local radio station in their marketing department. Their engineer happened to be recording a local spot & asked if Ruth wanted to be one of the voices on it. She jumped at the chance.

Ruth never thought one could do voices for a living. Working for a living meant sitting at a desk, probably at a computer, right?

So she went the traditional route – went to grad school for Journalism. Started a small feminist improv-based theatre company to scratch the theatre and education itches. Got exposed to the Internet & the wild west that it was in the early days. Ruth started playing around with website creation & things started to snowball. At the time, the Internet didn’t look that different from the TRS-80 her dad had in the 80s.

But back to Voice Over. Let’s go back in time and relive a ’90s radio ad, shall we?

Was it the best performance? Probably not. Was it Academy-Award winning copy? Again, probably not. So why share this on her web site about 25 years later?

Because what was there was enthusiasm.

What was there was excitement.

And most importantly, Ruth got a glimpse of how her skills honed in theatre – taking direction and working with other people – might be used in a way that’s still work, but feels a little more like fun.

And wouldn’t you know it – there’s still a fair amount of sitting at a computer.
